“She was powerful, not because she wasn't scared but because she went on so strongly, despite the fear.” - Harper Lee

  • I treat adults with a variety of outpatient concerns in individual therapy. However, psychotherapy is not only for those experiencing significant distress. Therapy can benefit anyone interested in developing personal insight, managing stress or improving the quality of their relationships with others.

The success of psychotherapy is highly dependent upon the relationship between the therapist and client. I am highly skilled in building trust and feelings of safety when working with all clients.

What can I expect from therapy?

The foundation of my work with clients is my training and developed skills from over 20 years of clinical practice, combined with my vast knowledge of clinical psychology from my academic career as a professor and researcher.

However, the transformative experience of therapy will take place through my care and attunement to you, as I seek to gain a deep understanding of you, your story, and how the events, traumas and relationships in your life have intersected with your unique psychology to bring you to this point in time. I will strive to help you feel seen and valued as an individual, and less alone and ashamed in your struggle. I will guide you in gaining profound insights into yourself, your emotions and your relationships, and grow in new and enduring ways that perhaps you didn’t believe were possible.

Let’s face it. You probably know which behaviors you want to change, when you might be having irrational thoughts, and you have some sense of how you want your life to be different. If change was as easy as identifying the problem and following a plan, you probably would have done it by now. You aren’t lacking in motivation to be more at peace with yourself and to move forward in the ways you desire.

With my approach, we will talk about your behaviors, thoughts, emotions, relationships and symptoms with compassion and without judgment. We will identify and process their root causes and understand why and how they developed to prevent them from reappearing in similar or different ways. This is especially important for underlying issues or causes that are complex, originating from relationships with others and/or related to trauma. The goal is for real change that will continue to create positive ripples in your life.

Therapy in general can be challenging, exciting, educational, interesting and extraordinarily useful. Therapy need not be overwhelming as we will also work on skill-building, self-care, symptom management, and containment as needed. These strategies can be both creative and practical, and I will work to discover what resonates the best with you. What can be effective and inspired for one client, may be ineffective or damaging to another. I am here to meet you where you are, and walk with you in your journey.

  • I provide thorough and cost-effective forensic evaluations for individuals involved in sexual abuse civil litigation, sexual harassment, hostile workplace and other personal injury cases in which psychological damages need to be established. I am an expert in the sequelae of sexual abuse and trauma and knowledgeable of the laws related to sexual abuse litigation, including statute of limitations and delayed discovery considerations. I received a certificate in psychological assessment in my doctoral training for completing additional coursework and training in assessment beyond the requirements of a clinical psychology doctoral degree and also trained in a forensic private practice specializing in family law. I am qualified to administer a wide variety of measures and utilize both objective and projective personality tests to increase the validity of my conclusions.

I am highly effective in communicating the results of testing in an understandable manner and integrating findings from testing, biographical information, medical and therapist records and clinical interviews, to provide a comprehensive report that can stand up in court.

I accept referrals from attorneys for forensic evaluations for civil litigation.

Dr. Hatchard was invited to give a presentation to staff and students, within the School for Psychotherapy and Counselling Psychology at Regent's College, London. Her talk was both inspirational and emotional. Through her extensive work in this field and use of her powerful documentary she was able to talk passionately and confidently about the issues faced by mother abused women, offering unique advice to therapists and counsellors. Dr. Hatchard is an extremely effective lecturer and I highly recommend her as a speaker in this little understood area. - Dr. Lisa Doodsen, Programme Director, Department of Psychology, Regents College, London

Her passion for this work and commitment to helping those who have suffered this overlooked but devastating form of trauma is inspiring. My students gave her talk and documentary high praise. Thanks again so much for an extraordinary morning at our facility! We are so grateful to Dr. Hatchard for making the trip down to us, and for not only the phenomenal presentation, but also for the tireless work that she is doing toward the awareness of MDSA and its mission. Dr. Christine Hatchard gave a series of invited talks on our campus, engaging our college students in interactive, dynamic discussions. Her evening presentation impacted many lives, helping an audience of college students, counselors, educators, and community members dialogue about a topic often ignored. Our college would be honored to host Dr. Hatchard again, as it is rare to find a speaker who is as vibrant, professional, and skilled as she.- Dr. Sachi Horback, Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Olympia, WA

I would like to thank Dr. Hatchard for speaking at the Therapeutic Oasis in Florida. I found her presentation to be eye opening, and her deep passion for this work was clearly reflected in both her movie and subsequent discussion. Kudos to her for bringing such a taboo topic to light. As a treating professional, I was deeply impacted by the presentation and gained knowledgeable information that I will bring into my own clinical practice. I admire Dr. Hatchard's drive and desire to continue to educate society about mother-daughter sexual abuse. Selected Testimonials for Dr. Hatchard’s Documentary, Who Will Love Me?

Girls who are sexually abused by their mothers suffer what may be the deepest emotional wounding there is. By letting us hear women talk about their own experiences, "Making Daughters Safe Again" provides essential education for supporters of survivors, both personal and professional, and will help every daughter who has been abused by her mother know that she is not alone, not to blame, and that healing is possible. This deeply moving film is an extremely valuable contribution to the field of healing from child sexual abuse. - Ellen Bass, co-author of The Courage to Heal

This documentary leaves no doubt that maternal incest is uniquely distinct from other forms of sexual abuse in how it manifests, and in how it impacts the lives of those who have experienced it. To characterize this violation as rape of one’s soul or spirit is not an overstatement; many of us who have also been sexually abused by men will agree that even though these violations were terrible, they do not rise to the level of destructiveness that is characterized by mdsa. The world needs to hear these stories. - Linda Crockett, author of The Deepest Wound: How a Journey to El Salvador Led to Healing from Mother-Daughter Incest

Who Will Love Me? goes a long way to breaking the silence which has historically surrounded the phenomenon of mother-daughter sexual abuse. If you are a mother- daughter incest survivor, or a service provider, this documentary offers valuable information about the differing relationship dynamics and sequelae that are unique to mother-daughter incestuous abuse. Thank you for your essential contribution; in very profound ways, your 4 co-researchers broke their silence, promoted their own healing and that of other mother-daughter incest survivors. - Beverly Ogilvie, author of Mother-Daughter Incest: A Guide for Helping Professionals

Who Will Love Me? is a powerful, respectful film that eloquently validates the physical, emotional and psychological trauma of mother-daughter incest. With strength and insight, four adult survivors share their abuse histories and explain how their lives were impacted by maternal betrayal. Their reflections give testimony to the resilient strength of the human spirit and to the healing that comes from speaking Truth, being believed, letting go of the shame and helping other victims become survivors. Thank you, Marilyn, Andrea, Kristen and Cathy. I enthusiastically endorse this video for survivors and their partners and for mental health and child protection professionals everywhere. -Julie Brand, M.S., author of A Mother’s Touch: Surviving Mother-daughter Sexual Abuse http://www.caperconsulting.com

I highly recommend this DVD to all who work in the field of child sexual abuse and are committed to the protection of children and adolescents. -Karen A Duncan, M.A. author of Female Sexual Predators: Understanding Them to Protect Our Children and Youths and founder of The Right To Safe (www.theright2besafe.org)
